Siblings anyone??
As kids, we used to draw this imaginary line on our beds, to distinguish my place from hers. And god forbid if we stepped over the lakshman rekha in our sleep. Now when I look back it sounds and feels so silly..., but it brings me good memories, none that gives me a reason why we did it, back then.
We had fights over who got the better piece of the honey cake, or even better, the bigger piece always felt as if it was sliding towards her, and just ditched me:( It was never true, now I know) . After having 2 kids now, I know a mother will never do that to her kids...not because she wants to be fair, but because she wont be able to handle the fights that follow...
Everytime I went away on some camp or the other, I could sense the glow in her smile and knew she was happy or rather terribly glad to see my back fade into the rickshaw that would take me away to the station or wherever....
Early mornings before we both left to college, I remember those times, when the neatly ironed clothes in my wardrobe would suddenly make space on her petite body.
Sharing a room with her, was like living in a bombed out room....her table always had something or the other defeating all rational reasoning of balance and proportions....while I would get a disease if things went haywire on mine...
Now years later, and many grown up experiences and cities apart
I crave for that Lakshman Rekha, which i'd gladly cross, even if it meant to cross her...it never happens....the bed is always usurped by the 2 brats of mine who both want her on their side
Now a piece of cake never sits on her ever dieting palette...so I get to eat the big and small of it...and when she makes such huge efforts to bring me the same...I can't hold back my tears
Now when we see the backs of each other...even if it was after just meeting for half an hour after months and years, we, turn back again and again, just to get that one last glimpse of her oh so smiling face
And when she gifts me clothes and stuff, I can't but help think back to those times, when I would wish that she never would see clothes...
And years down, she tells me that I need to get my life back in action and organise my haphazard plans...
Sisters will always remain sisters....Feel like wringing their neck at times, but when you miss them , so bad, all you want is for life to turn back and give you those small moments to cherish and smile...And then one day pray that they get the best out of life and not you.

oh man, i know wht u mean...isnt it amazing how unconditional certain relationships are? where all u want is their best....
truly get it...iam one of 3 bros..thick as thieves...even now, we r in our 30s..guess we r just lucky...
@tys Yes it can be one amazing relationship. And you are one of those really lucky ones
I understand what you are saying. My brother is getting married now and I am hoping against hope that we don't get separated and remain as we were earlier!
As I have often been saying, memories are our greatest gift from God to roll back in time and enjoy.A sort of time machine which brings smile back in our face .Enjoy and keep going,Good luck

sometimes being a woman probably helps in expressing your feelings better!
my sis and parents moved to USA and I do miss them and want them back here with me... but kind of never state it strongly enough...
And its definitely wonderful to have a sibling who gives you so much uncoditional love... I can never forget the way my sis didnt sleep all night, skipped food and was sitting next to me when I was admitted in the hospital.
I remember she always used to part with the best stuff for me from the very early days (mind you I was the older brother!)
@vidya Separation is only in the mind. If the bond is strong enough, each moment becomes special....and you will grow to love each other more. My wishes to your brother. And you'll have another person to look forward to and love.
@CU Oh yes, these memories are what keeps us going and plasters that silly smile on our faces many days...
@anon I don't think the gender should cause any difference in emotional expression. Each one has his way of letting the other know, and if you'll truly care for each other, it will show and your sibling can pick up those vibes. Thats how we are in our family....and i'm sure your sister will know :)
@keshi oh...I guess mine stands up well for me....
Hey...i was thinking of a similar post...i miss both my sis, i used to think that they were much better than me and i still do...and i think of all teh fights we had,and now how we are always looking out for each other...I'm very proud of them... nazar ne lagay:))
see, i've put black dots all over:)
come to think of it, u sound almost like me, are we some long lost twins?
Really Nice post..Bha!! I remember u and Ma going thru the same sisterly tribulations as J and myself - literally one street away! J always wore my neatly ironed clothes and would hang them back in my closet, b4 I returned home. Once, I returned earlier than usual and saw J outside your home. Before I drove over, Ma gave her cover of course, and vehemently denied that J was even in the vicinity. And J then actually returned home wearing Ma's clothes. Talk of our sisters ganging up on us !! Oh..those memories.
@ thinking aloud...U really think we are?? wow!!
'Buri nazar wale tera mmukh kala'- Hope I said that right :)
@umarag Hey welcome here. Did Ma do that???? Now I think I know how we became the scapegoats.....but still they were fun weren't they???
Keep dropping in
I don't have a sister. Waaah! I do have a brother, who happens to be a first class jerk. He still pulls my hair!
I wish I had a sister.
My sister in law was an only daughter after 3 brothers,my husband included. when I had a second daughter my MIL was a little upset but my SIL was overjoyed that my daughter would have a sister that she never had.I have a sister and though both of us are grandmothers we are really glad to have each other.I have brothers too and they are the best in the world. But a sister will always be special.
@AP oh, it can be hurting to get your hair pulled, but i'm sure you'll will have some fond memories somewhere :)
@hipgrandma Thats so touching a gesture that your sil did. It is really special , yes to have a sister
my best and worst realisations about relationships have happened with my sisters!
@vinesh. That must be so memorable too! :) Welcome here
aww thats so sweet...being an olny child I have always longed for an elder bro..now after reading this I crave for a sis too...
@ RV I can understand that feeling. A sister is that much as special as a brother I guess...brothers will have their own epics being carved out i'm sure...atleast my sons are doing that for now :)
Thanks for dropping in
I have an elder brother.
And we fight like mad dogs with extra strong Rabies viruses (colonizing all of our circulation.) UGH.
But that's the fun part of having a sibling anyway.
This was a nice post!
@spunky Rabid relations...oh my God! But i perfectly get the gist!! Thank you
now that we are all grown up and all, we are busy trying to make up for all those months, years of silent treatment.....one hi and thank u only on rakhi day..
wish we were not so foolish then...wasted too much time!!!
@anon So true, and I guess we have started on the right path by realising where we lost...
thanks for dropping by
